A summary of our featured episode of the Automotive Storytelling Podcast, filmed at the Isle of Man TT.
In this episode, we explain why connectivity has become as critical to a modern vehicle as the engine itself and how we’re tackling the key challenges facing software-defined vehicles (SDVs).
Featuring: Stéphane Lagresle, John Freeman (CEO – Stacuity), Mike Bromwich (CTO – Stacuity) and Chris Hall (Chairman – Stacuity).
The Automotive Connectivity Challenge
Today’s cars rely on connectivity for software updates, telematics, infotainment, autonomous features and more. But that connection has to follow the car everywhere it goes, make decisions locally in milliseconds, survive partial network failures, and keep working for the entire 5-to-15-year life of the vehicle, across every market the car is sold in. Delivering that reliably, everywhere, all at once is where much of the industry is currently stuck.
We use the TT’s century-old network of trackside marshals as an analogy for what every modern network needs: handover (passing a connection seamlessly from one point to the next), edge intelligence (decisions made locally, where the action is), and redundancy (designed to keep working when something fails). Our point is that those same principles now have to be delivered in software, at scale, for connected vehicles.
