To celebrate the end of a milestone year, we’re featuring the voices of our talented tech team. In this team Q&A, we explore the exciting new features coming to our programmable platform and provide a glimpse into the dynamic culture that makes Stacuity such a unique and rewarding place to work.

Q: What achievement of the tech team have you been most proud of in 2025?

A: Mike Bromwich – Founder and CTO

“We’ve had many plates spinning this year – delivering an ambitious roadmap of features, accelerating our global network rollout, supporting customers and partners, and at the same time ensuring reliability as we scale our customers and traffic. The team has consistently pulled together despite the pressure – always remaining professional, committed and (usually) calm! Given the pace at which we are innovating, there are always new things to learn – and everyone embraces new technology like true geeks – with open arms and genuine curiosity. I’m very proud of what we’ve achieved in such a dynamic and fast-moving environment.”

Q: What feature have you been working on recently which you’re most excited about?

A: Nelius de Lange – Lead Developer

“We have built quite a lot of great features recently. If I had to pick one, it would probably be Multi-APN. This allows a device to have multiple PDP Contexts (data sessions) active in parallel. We also created the ability for these multiple data sessions to have different routing policies applied, which allows traffic to be treated differently, and even breakout at different edge locations – really cutting edge stuff! In the real world, this is applicable to vehicle mobile connections as an example, where you can split the infotainment and analytics data sessions and provide different QoS levels for each.”

Q: What aspect of your role do you enjoy the most?

A: Ian Quayle – Infrastructure Lead

“I spend much of my time at a kind of intersection between the exciting innovation that is a massive part of Stacuity’s identity, and the ‘practical’ side of delivering a reliable global infrastructure (i.e. without stifling that creativity). This often means I get to take familiar, conventional network tech and work on creative ways to make it do far more that it says ‘on the tin’; the pace and excitement that the current growth is driving is acting as a kind of catalyst, enabling us to stretch the boundaries of what’s possible with otherwise standard kit… I mean, what Geek wouldn’t love a bit of that?”

Q: What aspects of the Stacuity platform resonates best with customers?

A: Tom Dougherty – Presales Solutions Architect

“It really depends on who you’re talking to. Engineers and support teams often connect immediately with very practical capabilities, for example, being able to trigger a packet capture on live user-plane traffic. It’s the sort of feature that makes day-to-day troubleshooting and validation far easier, and its value is obvious as soon as you’ve needed it once.

As conversations broaden, the value of vSlice tends to come through more strongly. The ability to spin up and tear down isolated networks, add or remove subnets and change routing behaviour all at the click of a button, it feels very familiar to anyone used to working with cloud infrastructure. It’s that shift from static network design to something far more dynamic and configurable that usually lands once people see the platform in action.”

Q: What element of your work at Stacuity do you find the most fascinating?

A: Adam Duke – Senior Software Engineer

“I find the intersection of software and hardware the most fascinating part of my work at Stacuity. By using Rust in our data-plane components and pairing it with carefully chosen hardware, we’re able to process huge volumes of traffic efficiently. Using advanced load-testing tools, we can push the system to its limits, and it’s amazing to see what is now possible. As we continue to expand our global Edge footprint, customers directly benefit from the low latency and high throughput that this architecture enables.”

Q: What initiatives and approaches have you introduced to Stacuity since joining and why?

A: Chris Glaister – Infrastructure Manager

“It’s practically a running joke amongst the team that I will write an Ansible playbook to do make a cup of tea, but Ansible has been very successfully an audit, visibility and “group policy” tool for the existing estate so far. For the edge site builds it’s very satisfying to hit ‘go’ and see all the component virtual machines appear in mere seconds. Approaches – Treat our engineers as first class citizens! – Provide them with a service, don’t just let them fend for themselves. In our case that is automatically populated, centrally managed lists of servers for day to day work, central authentication, consistency of approach, all so that when we have those (thankfully rare) 3am calls, our engineer is not asking ‘where’s this, how do we diagnose that and on what address?”

Q: What are your plans for our global network rollout over the next three months?

A: Mike Leonard – Technical Services Delivery Manager

“A core part of Stacuity’s platform is our globally distributed packet gateways, our Edge sites. Over the next three months, we’ll be rolling out new Edge sites in Brazil, Sydney and US West, alongside a scale-up of our US East Edge site to support upcoming customer integrations. We don’t plan to slow down for the rest of the year either, so watch this space!”

Q: What feature is in the pipeline for the next quarter which you think will be most appreciated by customers?

A: Nelius de Lange – Lead Developer

“For the near future we are focusing on our CMP to give to our customers the ability to configure the Portal features available to their particular use case. This ability also ties nicely into user roles, authorization and permissions. We realized that our solution can be applied to such a vast range of use cases, that customers with more basics requirements, do not really benefit in seeing all the bells and whistles (no pun intended during Christmas time…), and turning some features off, allows them to only see what is important and applicable to them.”

Q: What do you enjoy most about the culture and dynamics of the Stacuity technical team?

A: Jeremy Crookshank – Software Engineer

“What stands out most is the level of ownership across the team. People care deeply about what they’re building and take responsibility for seeing things through properly, from design to delivery and into operation. The team is highly collaborative in a very practical way. Problems get discussed openly, assumptions are challenged, and decisions are made with a clear focus on long-term platform quality and customer impact. People move quickly when it makes sense, but always with reliability and scale in mind. It’s a team of experienced engineers who enjoy solving hard problems together and maintain a consistently high technical standard. That combination makes the day-to-day work both rewarding and effective.”

Q: What are you currently working on which you’re excited to get into the hands of customers?

A: Adam Duke – Senior Software Engineer

“Launching early next year, I’m excited to be working on a new feature to expose metrics using the OpenMetrics standard (https://openmetrics.io) This gives customers a Prometheus-compatible endpoint they can plug directly into tools like Grafana to visualise, monitor, and alert on signalling events, data usage, and other key metrics, giving them deeper visibility and control.”

Q: What truly sets Stacuity apart?

A: John Freeman – CEO

“We are not dependent on third-party software. Every line of code, every platform capability, and all our IP are owned by Stacuity. With development, systems operations, and network operations all in-house, we combine deep technical expertise with commercial agility — enabling us to respond rapidly to real customer needs without relying on third-party vendors or external roadmaps.”

“This approach delivers genuine speed to market, continual innovation aligned to real customer requirements, and the flexibility today’s telco environment demands. And the momentum continues — in response to our exponential growth, we’re planning to expand these teams further this year.”

“The biggest challenge? Staying ahead — in a market that never stands still. A great problem to have, and one we’re excited to keep tackling.”
